Setup

To start the game, each player draws ten White Cards.

Game Play

One randomly chosen player begins as the Card Czar and plays a Black Card. The Card Czar reads the question or fill-in-the-blank phrase on the Black Card out loud.

Everyone else answers the question or fills in the blank by passing one White Card, face down, to the Card Czar.

The Card Czar shuffles all of the answers and shares each card combination with the group. For full effect, the Card Czar should usually re-read the Black Card before presenting each answer.

The Card Czar then picks a favorite, and whoever played that answer keeps the Black Card as one Awesome Point.

After the round, a new player becomes the Card Czar and everyone draws back up to ten White Cards.

Pick 2s

Some cards say "Pick 2" on the bottom. To answer these, each player plays two White Cards in combination. Play them in the order that the Card Czar should read them – the order matters.

If the Card Czar has lobster claws for hands, you can use paperclips to secure the cards in the right order.

Gambling

If a Black Card is played and you have more than one White Card that you think could win, you can bet one of your Awesome Points to play one additional White Card.

If you win, you keep your point. If you lose, whoever wins the round gets the point you wagered.

Cards Against Humanity is meant to be remixed. Here are some of our favorite ways to pimp out the rules.

Happy Ending

When you're ready to stop playing, play the "Make a Haiku" Black Card to end the game. This is the official ceremonial ending of a good game of Cards Against Humanity, and this card should be reserved for the end. (Note: Haikus don't need to follow the 5-7-5 form. They just have to be read dramatically).

The Stepto Maneuver

At any time, players may trade in an Awesome Point to return as many White Cards as they'd like to the deck and draw back up to ten.

Packing Heat

For Pick 2s, all players draw an extra card before playing the hand to open up more options.

Rando Cardrissian

Every round, pick one random White Card from the pile and place it into play. This card belongs to an imaginary player named Rando Cardrissian, and if he wins the game, all players go home in a state of everlasting shame.

Never Have I Ever

At any time, players may discard cards that they don't understand, but they must confess their ignorance to the group and suffer the resulting humiliation.

How to Play Cards Against Humanity

What You'll Need

Cards Against Humanity isn't your traditional card game! In fact, one of the many reasons it likely grew in popularity so quickly was because of how flexible and "laidback" it is compared to other card games.

However, that doesn't mean there aren't things to learn when it comes to playing the game or rules. To play Cards Against Humanity you will first need a set of cards. Like we mentioned earlier, there are plenty of different sets to choose from and expansion decks.

But to get started we recommend sticking to a basic set first. The good news is that even the basic introductory set like the product below comes with plenty of cards. Speaking of which let's take a more in-depth look at how the cards work.

Black Cards

There are two kinds of cards in your standard Cards Against Humanity set, black and white. Black cards are question cards and at the start of a round, the Card Czar picks a black card and places it face up.

Following the standard rules, the black card is picked at random. However, given the flexible nature of Cards Against Humanity, this doesn't always have to be the case. In fact, many players opt to choose the card they find to have the best potential for funny or shocking answers.

On each black card, there will be either a question or statement with a blank space. This space is what will be filled with a white card.

White Cards

White cards are more numerous than black cards. For example, in the basic Cards Against Humanity set you get 500 white cards and 100 black. At the start of each round once the Card Czar has placed the black card down every player will be dealt 10 white cards.

On the cards, they'll be either a short phrase or a single word answer. This is what will fill in the empty space found on the black card. The idea is for each player to choose the card they find the funniest.

Once you choose a card you give it face down to the Card Czar who will read out each answer. So, that is the basics behind how the cards work. Let's now take a look at the gameplay of this quirky, party game.

The Aim of The Game

The aim of Cards Against Humanity is to simply have fun! While there is a scoring system it doesn't have to be used and the rules actively encourage people to play however they want. But if you're playing for the first time then following the standard rules is recommended.

After a while, you can always think up some fun house rules or try a few new things. But to ease into the game comfortably following the standard Cards Against Humanity rules is always going to be the best option.

Starting A Game

Cards Against Humanity is designed for group play and it's recommended that there is a minimum of 4 players. If you're looking for 2 player card games then Cards Against Humanity isn't the best choice; with this game it's the more the merrier.

There can be as many as 20 players and in some cases even more! But to start a game you first need to decide who the Card Czar is going to be.

The Card Czar will change after every round and it is their job to choose a black card, deal out the white cards, and finally read out the answers once collected. Under the standard rules, the Czar will also be responsible for choosing the funniest answer as well.

According to the official rule book included with Cards Against Humanity sets the person who most recently defecated should be the first Card Czar. Although like most areas of the game this rule can be changed.

Awesome Points

Earlier we said there was a scoring system under standard Cards Against Humanity rules. These are known as awesome points and a single point is awarded to the player the Czar chooses each round.

After one round has been completed a new player becomes the Czar. This doesn't have to be the winner of the previous round although this is usually the case. And then a new round is played.

So, what does getting an awesome point actually do? Well under the standard rules noting, in fact, standard Cards Against Humanity rules make it clear that the objective is to simply have fun. They don't state a way for you to win the game at all.

Rule Variations

Talking about all the variations and house rules for Cards Against Humanity would require quite a few large volumes. But if you want to add a twist to your games or utilize a more traditional points system you can do so.

Some popular rule variations include placing a cap on the number of rounds and the player with the most points wins. Others give players with awesome points the ability to play more than one white card per round.

Another popular house rule is to alter the rule of the Card Czar. Instead of them being the one to choose a winner the best white card is instead chosen by the group. Others even transform it into a drinking game.

Expansion Sets

Part of the reason for Cards Against Humanity's popularity is the great array of expansion sets. These sets cover many different themes like ones based around UK and Australian style jokes. To ones themed around different decades like the 80s and 90s. Expansion sets come in various sizes and usually add new black and white cards to your decks.

Cards Against Humanity was definitely one of kind upon its release, although now there are quite a few variations from other companies.

It's not something everyone will enjoy and the creators know this. The standard Cards Against Humanity box even states "a party game for horrible people" which shows the unique character this game has.

INTRODUCTION TO CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY

Cards Against Humanity is a card game that involves filling in the blank on a black card with inappropriate, politically incorrect, or down right offensive white cards in order to make the funniest statement. The game is modeled after the popular, but family friendly game, Apples to Apples. This game can be downloaded and printed for free on the company website, which you can access here. For players who own the hard copy game, many expansion packs may be bought to increase the number of cards and possibilities, or better accommodate large groups of people.

BASIC GAMEPLAY

Each active player draws 10 white cards from the box. The player who has pooped most recently starts the game as the Card Czar. The pick and play a black card by reading it aloud to all the other players. The black cards are fill-in-the-blank. Active players who are not the Card Czar choose a white card from their hand that they think best completes the phrase or sentence(s). These cards are passed to the Card Czar, face-down, for consideration. The Card Czar shuffles and reads the responses aloud to the group, whichever the Czar thinks is the funniest wins the black card. Who ever played the white card takes the black card and keeps it as their Awesome Point. After the round is finished, a new player becomes the Czar and the rules repeat. Players replace their cards in order to maintain a hand of 10 cards.

Picking Two

Some black cards have two blanks to fill and ask for two cards. Players should pass these, in order, to the Czar for consideration. Be sure to not let them out of order, or you may lose when you had the potential to win an Awesome Point!

Gambling

If you believe you have more than one white card that could win you an Awesome Point, you may bet an Awesome Point you already have and play two white cards. If you win the round with either card you keep your bet, if you lose the winner of that round gets the Awesome Point wagered.

HOUSE RULES

Happy Ending

If you wish to finish the game, grab the black card that says, "Make a Haiku." This is the "official" closing ceremony of a Cards Against Humanity game. Haikus do not need to follow the 5-7-5 format but simply must be dramatic.

Rebooting the Universe

At any point in the game, players can choose to trade in an awesome point in order to exchange up to 10 white cards.

Packing Heat

Prior to a Pick 2 card, all players (but the Card Czar) should draw an extra white card in order to have more options.

Rando Cardrissian

During every round, pick a random white card from the box and throw it into play. These cards belong to the imaginary player Rando Cardrissian. If Sir Cardrissian wins the game, each player must hang their head in shame that they were unable to be funnier than the chaos of the universe, which is most simply, chance.

God is Dead

Play without a Card Czar. Each player picks which card they think is funniest and they are put to a communal vote. The card with the most amount of votes wins the round.

Survival of the Fittest

In true Darwin style, players eliminate 1 white card at a time when judging the round. The last card standing is the winner of the round.

Serious Business

Each round, instead of awarding a single person a single Awesome Point, the Czar ranks their top three favorite responses. #1 earns 3 Awesome points, #2 earns 2 Awesome Points, and #3 earns 1 Awesome Point. Keep a running tally of each player's score. The player with the highest number of Awesome Points at the end of the game is the winner.

Never Have I Ever

If a player must shed a white card due to ignorance of its content, they must announce it to the whole group, and be shamed for their lack of being in the know. Humiliation is encouraged.

Officially the game plays 4 to 20 plus players. It is possible to play with 2 or 3 with some house rules (more on them later), and more than 6 just feels a bit claustrophobic. Find a good middle ground. It is also worth mentioning that this game is very offensive. It is abhorrent with details revolving religion, sexuality and sex in general, toilet humour etc so it is advised not to play with prudes.

Playing Cards Against Humanity

So, to begin, every player draws 10 white cards.

Officially, the player who most recently did a number 2 (that is a poo poo) goes first. There is one exception to this, however. If you are Hugh Jackman, then you go first regardless. He is a big fan of my blogs of course, so I thought it important to mention. You're welcome, J man.

The starting player draws a black card and reads aloud the statement shown on it for all players to hear. They simply say "blank" wherever the space is on the card. Then all other players choose a white card from their hand to secretly pass to the player with the black card.

The aim of Cards Against Humanity is to make the player laugh the most with your selected word or phrase to fill in the blank. So, knowing each player's humour style will work in your flavour here.

The player then shuffles all the white cards they have been given together and reads the black card inserting each white card in turn. They then simply choose the one that made them laugh the most as the winner and play continues in whatever direction you want. I tend to give the black card to the winning player to keep track of the score. If anyone is actually playing to win that is.

Some black cards will have a 'pick 2' on them. This basically means the card has 2 blanks for people to fill in. Be careful when shuffling on these rounds, as it is easy to mix up people's submissions, or even get them back to front.

It has been over 15 years since I have been to a Comic/Card store and I just got back from one because I needed a box big enough to hold my Cards Against Humanity set (with the two expansions).

I really love this game, and I have brought it up to several people and had mixed responses.
I wanted to hear what the guys at Nico had to say!

It is an adult version of Apples to Apples if you have ever played that.

The manufacturer only prints them a few times a year, and as a result of some times, they sell on eBay/amazon for a significant premium. The standard price is $25 for the set, with the expansion packs at $10.

This is a Discord bot that coordinates multiplayer gameplay on Discord for the popular card game Cards Against Humanity.

Simply create a new game, tell your friends the game code, and have fun!

Gameplay:
The game consists of multiple rounds in which one winner is awarded a point. The player with the most points at the end of the game is declared the winner.

Each round, one player is the "judge". For the first round a random player is selected to be judge, for subsequent rounds the judge is the winner of the last round. There is one question card, which contains a prompt such as ______: kid tested, mother approved. . Everyone except the judge chooses whichever of their 7 response cards fits the question card the best. After everyone has chosen a card, the judge anonymously selects which card they thought was best, and the player who played the card selected by the judge wins and gets a point.

Here are the official rules to the original game. Since this game is online, a few aspects have been changed for an improved experience.

How do I use the bot?

To use the bot, just add it to your discord server using this invite link. You'll need the proper permissions/role in the server in order to be able to do this.
